Styling Tips: How to style a harmonious bedroom...

We get many questions about bedroom styling, and where to invest money to create a welcoming and relaxing bedroom. Here are some tips to get you started!

Bedrooms are my favourite rooms to style. They involve texture, colour and art, all working together to create a space that you don't want to leave. When styling for staging (people looking to sell) we make sure we select a scheme that won't poplarise people viewing the property. It is important to select a more neutral pallet, however, today I am offering some tips for styling your bedroom for the long term.

I get many questions about how to style a bedroom to make it warm and inviting - here are my key tips!

Tip #1 - It's all about colour - go for timeless with pops of popular!

Now, some people avoid colour in bedrooms and it is definietly on trend at the moment to work with a neutral scheme, however, some colour can create warmth and an inviting room you won't want to leave.

I always use a key artwork as a reference point for colour in a bedroom. You should reflect on the colours in the artwork and use these in the bedding and pillows. If the artwork has peach and green tones, you can work these into the smaller styling items to create a cohesively styled space.

It can be nice to go for a more neutral quilt cover as a white or cream base, and then layer colour in the feature pillows, european pillows and throws. This can save you money in the longrun as it is easier to change out smaller pillows than spend more money on a whole new quilt set.

Colours I love:

  • peach and soft pinks - although feminine it always creates a sense of calm

  • Blue - a classic that will stand the test of time

  • sage green - it will always bring calm to a space

  • lavander - there are some fantastic throw pillows and quilt sets in this colour at the moment and we are obsessed!

Tip #2 - Build on texture

Texture is the key to creating warmth and what I like to call a 'cloud-like bed' - this is always the aim, right?!

Knitted throws, textured pillows and quilt covers with a soft textured pattern are easy ways to bring texture into the space. You can change these seasonally to add to the feel of the space. For example a large chunky knitted throw is great for winter and will make the space feel snug, whereas a softer cotton throw may feel better in summer.

If you're not so sure about colour, texture can be a simple way to make your bedroom more inviting. You can stick with a neutral pallet and layer with texture.

Tip #3 - Art is key

I love shopping for art, as it can be the make or break for any space in the home. You shouldn't be afraid to include a key artwork in your bedroom, as it can be the piece that draws the room together, Artwork that utilises softer tones may feel more inviting in bedroom spaces.

We often get asked about where to hang it. Sometimes it will look best centred over the bed - especially when you have a larger bed e.g. kingsized. However, don't be afraid to hang it to the side of the bed, over a side table with lamp. This can help to draw you into the room and may be better if you have a smaller artwork to hang.
