Inspiration is tricky when it comes to property styling. Our job is to be on top of styling trends, however, we also need to create warm and welcoming spaces that any buyer will fall in love with. Inspiration often comes with the first walk-through and is a combination of the home, styling trends and colour.
When entering a new property I always take note of the era of the property, any obvious colours/fittings that stand out (e.g. carpet colour, kitchen/bathroom cabinetry, light fittings etc.), as well as elements that we might need to consider helping potential buyers see past e.g. outdated features, brickwork that could be painted down the track etc.
These elements generally dicitate the colour pallete and style of furniture we decide to work with, as we may need to neutralise strong paint choices or brickwork. There is no point going for a strong modern design style of whites and blacks, when the property is clearly a 1970s original home - a stylists job is to recognise how to play into the style of the home.
Away from the home I like to draw styling ideas from many different places. I'm a huge fan of Pinterest and will often end up hours lost in the beautiful images you can find there. I also draw inspiration from other stylist on Instagram, as well as the pages of magazines - Home Beautiful is a must for me and I always love a copy of Adore Home. There's nothing like a cup of coffee and a beautiful magazine to start the weekend right!
